Happies :-)

Morning cuddles with my baby.  She's really not much of a cuddler most of the time, but she makes an exception in the morning-time.  So sweet and snuggly when she first wakes up!

Loving the first day of fall!!!  Burgers from Griff's (an ABQ burger joint that stands the test of time-my dad used to eat there as a teenager) at Hidden Park and some cute cute cute pictures.

She's Four Months Old!

What a goober!  Four months old, and such a personality is emerging.  This is a tough developmental time for babies, as I noted in the previous post.  Thanks to a simple idea from my friend Tara, we were able to get a FULL night's sleep the night before last.  But, last night was a night of broken sleeping once again.  It was nice while it lasted...for one day!  Although this last few weeks has been very exhausting, Harper is really starting to 'come into her own' and it's so fun to watch.  I find her to be a little feisty!  Very smiley.  Determined.  She loves to throw her voice around right now, and makes these almost growling noises!  It's SO funny.  She's slightly stubborn.  Already Miss Independent, but still has her "I NEED my mommy to hold me!" moments.  And she really does get cuter and cuter with every day that passes.

At our pediatrician appointment Dr. Cox said we could start introducing solid foods.  While I'm not TOTALLY ready for her to eat full solid food meals, I think it will be fun to start giving her little 'tastes' when I'm eating a banana or something.  For some reason, feeding a baby full solid food meals before they can even sit up on their own just seems weird to me!  She's still just so tiny and babyish.  Once she's able to sit up in a high chair, I think I'll be more open to the idea of giving a whole solid food meal/snack.  But starting with little tastes will be fun :-) Oh, how fast these babies grow!

Growing Pains

Little gal is almost 4 months old and is definitely going through some big changes.  While at first I thought these developments were so exciting and cool...now I'm kind of saying...God help us all!!!  Starting the teething process, learning new skills, and doing the typical 4 month growth spurt is a lot for a sweet baby to handle.  A lot for mom and dad, too :-)
Since having Harper, I have done my fair share of reading about baby development.  One of the things I keep coming across is that when baby learns a new skill, they want to continuously practice it...unfortunately, this practice includes the wee hours of the night.  Obviously, we've experienced this 'phenomenon' firsthand now!
Since learning to roll over, Harper is obsessed with this new feeling.  Great!  BUT, she only rolls one way right now.  Uh oh!  She rolls from her back to her tummy and gets stuck.  During the day, it's no problem.  I let her fuss around and try to figure out how to roll BACK over.  She's done it a couple of times, but it hasn't really stuck with her yet.  So, to our dismay, she rolls over during the night, gets stuck, and cries.  Right now, this is happening about every 2 hours.  And she thinks this rolling over thing is soooo fun, so usually it's quite the chore to get her back to sleep!  It's so cute when she's laughing and squealing about how awesome she is because she just rolled over-again!-just not so much at 11pm, 1am, 3am, and 5am.  Ugh.....reallllly can't wait for her to figure out how to roll from tummy to back.  I think I can say Josh and I are BOTH desperate for a solid night's sleep.  For a time, Harper was sleeping until about 5-5:30am every day.  That's early.  But holy moly, do I miss THOSE days!  Come back to me 5am waking time!  I miss you!  If only baby girl missed you as much as I do...at least my little roly poly is a cute little stinker!!

Labor Day Beach Getaway Recap

We are back from our vacation to Galveston!  It was just wonderful, and Harper was an absolute gem of a traveler.  The flights out and back were no problem.  We had zero screaming baby episodes, thank goodness!  I was pretty wound up about the whole thing before we left-trying to get the timing for nursing exactly perfect for take-off, landing, and whatnot.  But, really, it turned out to be no big deal.  She feel asleep on the way up, woke up pretty quickly after we were in the air and just kinda bounced around on our laps the rest of the flight, and then I nursed her on the way down!  Awesome.
Conked-out for Take-off!
Harper loved spending time with her Auntie Alyce-of course!  She is the baby whisperer, after all :-)  BONUS: Auntie Alyce brought Harper a handful of ADORABLE bows that I am in love with.  Thanks!!!
And little one also got lots of quality time with her grandparents.

Mom and dad even watched the baby once so the big kids could go spend a day at the beach, and again so Josh and I could go on a little date.
Everyone doted on her the whole weekend, and she was a perfect traveler.
Here we are at the beach.  Harper's first visit to the ocean-her first of many, I'm sure!

Traveling WITH a baby is definitely a change from traveling without one!  But, all in all it was a great vacation.  I loved seeing Alyce.  We realized this weekend that we have known each other longer than we have NOT known each other.  Crazy.  It was also great to spend time with my mom, dad, and give Josh a break from his busy busy work life.  Can't wait for our next vacation at Thanksgiving!  From hot, muggy, beachy Galveston--to cold, winter wonderland Minnesota!  Will be another adventure for sure :-)

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

So, we are still here in Galveston visiting with my parents and Alyce on vacation-but I had to post!  Our baby girl ROLLED OVER today for the first time!!!  It was so exciting and very cool that my mom, dad, and Alyce were around to witness one of Harper's developmental milestones.  She was SO close to doing it last night, and then this morning she made it happen.  And then wanted to do it again and again and again!  So cute.  Congratulations on your new skill, baby!  Enjoying our last bit of vacation time.  Tomorrow is back to the Burque :-)
